Ribbans Park is well connected to many of your local facilities and employment areas making it quick and easy to get around on foot or by bicycle. West of the site’s main access is a Tesco Express, just 400m away. Just 200m south of your home is St Clements Golf Club, a 2 minute walk away. You also have Rose Hill Retail Centre which contains Aldi and the Co-Op, this is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute cycle west of your home. Active travel is a great way to get around, it is great for your mental and physical health and is an easy way to achieve the recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity! Some of the health benefits of physical activity include:

- Good for your heart and lungs
- Decreased risk of heart disease
- Increased energy levels
- Weight loss
- Can count as part of your recommended exercise (5 x 30mins per week).

One of the best things about walking is that it is FREE! Many places also offer free, secure bike parking. By walking and cycling, you can avoid parking and petrol charges, and also save yourself from buying a gym membership!
By walking and cycling to your destination, you are also actively improving your environment. Active travel produces no pollution, and also reduces local traffic and congestion.
Suffolk County Council is currently preparing many improvements in cycling and walking facilities across your local area, making it easier, more convenient and safer for you to get around without needing a car. Keep an eye out for the changes happening around you, these could include:
- Introducing pedestrian and cycling zones
- Providing additional bicycle parking facilities
- Changing junctions to accommodate more cyclists
- Introducing Low Traffic Neighbourhoods

For those who fancy meeting some new people and taking in the local scenery, try joining a local cycle group such as Ipswich Bicycle Club. This group organises rides for all abilities with listings on their website of forthcoming rides and distances.
Park & Cycle
Don’t fancy cycling the whole journey? As a post-lockdown initiative, Suffolk County Council, in partnership with First Eastern Counties have created a Park & Ride for cyclists around the centre of Ipswich. Simply park at the Park & Ride site for FREE, and then follow one of the three dedicated cycle path routes into the centre of Ipswitch. This scheme makes cycling into the city centre easier than ever.

Cycle to Work Scheme
Have you considered cycling to work, but you don’t have a bike. The government cycle to work scheme provides the opportunity for you to purchase a bike through your employer and make savings on the VAT.
